Troubleshooting Microphone and Camera Conflicts

If you experience issues with your microphone or camera not working in SpatialChat, another application may be taking exclusive control of the device. Some programs, such as VOIP apps, recording software, or virtual conferencing tools, can prevent other applications from accessing these devices simultaneously.

How to Fix Device Access Conflicts

  1. Check Device Permissions
    • Ensure SpatialChat has permission to use your microphone and camera in your system settings.
  2. Close Other Applications
    • If other communication or recording apps (such as Zoom, Teams, Skype, or OBS) are running, close them and restart SpatialChat.
  3. Manually Select the Correct Device
    • In SpatialChat settings, choose the appropriate microphone and camera manually.
  4. Disable Exclusive Mode (Windows Users)
    • Go to Sound Settings > Microphone Properties > Advanced
    • Uncheck "Allow applications to take exclusive control of this device"
  5. Restart Your Computer
    • Some applications continue running in the background even after being closed. Restarting your computer ensures all device connections are reset.
  6. Test with Another Application
    • If the issue persists, try using your microphone and camera in another application to check if they function properly.

Why Does This Happen?

Some applications take exclusive control of a device, preventing it from being shared with others. While many modern communication tools support shared access, certain software - especially VOIP and recording apps - may still block simultaneous use.

If you continue experiencing issues, check the settings of the other application or contact its support team to see if it allows shared device access.
