How STEM Organizations Are Using SpatialChat to Power Virtual Mentorship

Riddhik Kochhar

As the need for accessible, high-impact STEM education grows, organizations are rethinking how they connect students with mentors. SpatialChat is helping make those connections more personal, scalable, and effective.

Supporting Scalable Mentorship in STEM

This past July, the Summit STEM Fellowship used SpatialChat to host a month-long virtual mentoring program for university students. The program featured 30+ custom rooms, each led by a mentor from a STEM field. Students could move freely between rooms, drop in on conversations, and receive real-time guidance tailored to their academic and career goals.

What set this program apart was its fluid and student-driven structure. Unlike static webinars or tightly scheduled Zoom calls, SpatialChat allowed for spontaneous, face-to-face interactions—helping recreate the feel of in-person networking. Students weren’t limited to chat boxes or raised hands; they could navigate the space naturally, engage when ready, and step back when needed.

Making Mentorship More Approachable and Engaging

This format not only boosted engagement but also made mentoring more approachable. Students built connections with professionals from across STEM disciplines, gaining valuable insights and building confidence in their chosen paths. Meanwhile, mentors could support multiple students without logistical constraints, all within a flexible and intuitive environment.

At SpatialChat, we’re proud to support organizations like the Summit STEM Fellowship that are driving innovation in education and mentorship. By creating virtual spaces that prioritize presence and interaction, we’re helping STEM leaders build communities that extend far beyond the screen.
