Do Not Disturb (DND) mode

Do Not Disturb (DND) mode is a digital "quiet zone" that signals to others that you're temporarily unavailable.

In the world of digital interactions, sometimes you need a moment to yourself, even in a virtual setting. By doing so, you can step back from the meeting without leaving it, letting you manage your attention and time more effectively.

💡
The DND mode is available on all SpatialChat plans.

How Do Not Disturb (DND) Mode works in SpatialChat

Activating the DND mode is an unobtrusive yet effective way to indicate that you are temporarily unavailable. Whether you're taking a quick phone call, need to concentrate on an immediate task, or simply need a breather, this feature helps you manage social expectations while providing you the space to focus or regroup.

Let's examine how these functions are applied in particular scenarios.

💡
If a user is there in the space during up to 40 minutes and does not interact with others, automatic pop-up "Are you still there?" appears.

Previously many SpatialChat attendees faced up a situation, when other participants left their keyboard for a while without setting up DND mode. So, once you receive such a notification, choose and click one of the two buttons to either stay in the space, or turn on DND mode.

From now on, make sure that your students or colleagues are with you!

Online events

At online events, the DND mode can serve as a powerful tool for focus and engagement.

Imagine you're attending a virtual conference featuring multiple speakers and interactive sessions. During a keynote, you may not want to be disturbed by other attendees wanting to chat or network. Enabling DND allows you to immerse yourself fully in the presentation, free from digital nudges or pop-ups.

Suppose you're at a virtual poster session, wandering through various presentations. You find a topic that particularly interests you, and you want to study the poster in detail. Activating DND mode signals to others that you're engrossed in the content and wish to not be interrupted, allowing you a focused experience.

Online education

DND mode isn't just for professionals; it's also a handy feature for students and educators in online classes.

In a virtual learning environment where students often multitask, enabling DND can help maintain the focus required for in-depth understanding of complex subjects.

During an online lecture on a difficult concept, a student can switch on DND mode to ensure they can take notes or think critically without the distraction of classmates' messages or Breakout room invitations. Similarly, an instructor can use DND mode when they are preparing material before class starts, to ensure they aren't distracted by early student queries.

Remote work

In the realm of virtual offices, where the boundary between personal space and collaborative space can blur, DND mode is a saving grace.

For team members juggling different responsibilities, it’s a way to carve out undisturbed periods for deep work and creativity.

During a weekly virtual team meeting, a manager can switch on DND mode while they are presenting their quarterly report. This signals to the team that questions should be held until after the presentation, allowing the meeting to proceed smoothly and efficiently.
